Sanctuary's Z1 [900SUPER4]

Z1_Sanctuary_01.jpg

The Z1 is the original model of Kawasaki's air-cooled Z series and has become a legend. The price of the Z1 has been rising every year due to its vintage value as a 1972 model, and there are many people who want one from a collector's point of view.

This Z1 was also manufactured with the goal of providing a safe ride in all stages of riding, such as city riding, long tours, and sport riding. To achieve that goal, no compromises were made in the selection of parts. Brembo brake calipers, Sunstar rotors, OHLINS front and rear shock absorber units, 17-inch forged aluminum wheels by OZ Racing, and Sanctuary's Sculpture brackets and swingarms were used to optimize the bike's stance. The 17-inch high-grip tires, which have become mainstream today, were chosen for their high level of performance.

Handle

The handlebar is Daytona's RCM Concept. The "RCM(Radical Construction Manufacture) Concept" is a term used by various parts manufacturers to describe parts that are produced and sold with the RCM image in mind, such as the RCM Concept rotors made by Sunstar.

Engine

The oil cooler is a Nitro Racing 11-inch 13-stage round type. It is difficult to benefit from the large capacity of the oil cooler by simply installing it in the Z1, but by using the SMB (Sanctuary Mechanic Brand) high pressure oil pump developed by Sanctuary, the performance of the large capacity oil cooler was fully extracted.

The engine has been increased to 1,045 liters with pistons made by Pistol Racing, and a number of other improvements have been made to increase durability and reliability. The engine has been upgraded to the Sanctuary's "Life Package" specification, but it is not underpowered and delivers more than enough torque and power in the practical use range.

Intake & Exhaust

The exhaust is a full titanium one made by Nitro Racing, one of Sanctuary's popular products. Z1 is equipped with a half-polished exhaust system, which is available in polished and half-polished finishes. And silencer is a Strait Titanium V-I, also by Nitro Racing.

Chassis

Laydown processing of rear shock is now considered by many to be a standard process. Of course, this is not a process that should be done lightly, as it requires frame modification, countermeasures against deformation due to heat and deformation during cooling, and symmetrical alignment. At Sanctuary, skilled mechanics use jigs to perform the work.

The front area has been redesigned with the ExM package, which includes front fenders and caliper supports that are required when replacing OHLINS front forks.

Brembo radial-mount calipers and Sunstar "RCM Concept" rotors were used to dramatically enhance braking power and control. O-Z Racing's latest model GASS RS-A wheels were also chosen.

The placket connecting the front fork to the frame is also made by Sculpture. 17-inch wheels on the Z1 would make the bike lean forward, causing the handlebars to lean out of alignment. To compensate for this, the caster angle, trail angle, and offset were optimized.

Rearsets are made by Nitro Racing. The simple shape of rearsets is popular because it can be installed on a slender machine without any discomfort. Also, bearings are built into the moving parts to reduce stress during operation and to prolong service life.

Z1_Sanctuary_12.jpg

In order to match the modern trend of actively using the rear brake to control body posture, a combination of small-diameter rotors, Brembo 2-pot calipers, and Nissin masters is used, and the rear brake is configured with wide pedal reserve for ease of use.

The Sculpture swingarm was designed specifically for the 17-inch air-cooled Z. Not only the length, but also the rigidity and bending were carefully considered. This is a special model with RCM's exclusive chain puller, sway bar, and racing stand hooks.
