There are very few rear racks for the XSR900 which suit its hybrid retro looks (and aren't crazy expensive). After much searching I found this one and it looks great. The instructions are in Japanese, but the carrier is easy to fit. The photos on the instructions give you the necessary clues (and you can always use an OCR translation app like Google Translate to get the gist of the text). Basically you need to remove the two side covers which are hiding two pre-installed mounting points. It's necessary to drill a 20mm hole in each of the plastic covers to expose the mounting points. You then unscrew the rear mudguard, slide the rack in and re-attached the mudguard. Aside from the drilling, which is mildly annoying as you have to make sure to line up the holes to the mount points, it's all pretty easy. Shame this item isn't available in Europe, as I could have done without having to pay the import duty, but anyway...
4 1/2 STARS. The only reason I cant say 5 Stars is the little cowl trim piece on the back has to come off and does not fit back on. Seriously though that is a very small price to have to pay as this rack fits well and is much more solid than I had any right to expect. I paired this rack with a SW-Motech base plate and a Givi26. Do not waste your time and/or money on those dinky little racks we have all seen if looking for a real rear rack for this bike.View Detail
Honestly, I chose this Carrier because of its loadable weight and review on other sites. The diagonal pipe that will be attached to the Rear Footpeg is... Does this increase the payload? That's about it. Design-wise... I thought When the Side Back is lowered, this Pipe also prevents the Bag from being rolled in. I'm sure you're aware of the fact that Finally. I noticed. View Detail

It doesn't come with the black hardware like it shows in the pictures. It comes with the silver stuff in the first picture. The assembly instructions are completely in Japanese and the pictures show different hardware than you're given, so it's a little confusing to install. You have to use one of the bolts that already in the bike (black with a rounded head) and one of the silver bolts they give you with a big cylindrical head. Honestly it looks pretty dumb with mismatched hardware, but no one will notice unless they already know its there (and you will know its there). I ended up going to home depot and buying some matching bolts and spray painting them black. Also, it doesn't come with the two rubber bumpers shown in the pictures and instructions, but it seems pretty rock solid so I'm not too worried about that.Besides the hardware, it's a little smaller than I'd like. I was hoping I could lock my helmet to it and rest it on top, but it's too small to hold my helmet. However, throw a bungee on it and it's great for bringing home some food.View Detail
Be advised that if you order this rack, it may take at least 2 months to get to you, so be patient. Rack fit perfectly and the installation was easy, took it to my local Honda dealer about 1/2 hour total for the install. The rack looks great, and can easily hold a backpack or sleeping bag. Make sure you use good bungees as the finish is glossy and you'll want to avoid scratching it. View Detail
This is the best looking rack I've seen for the xsr900. Installation was cake: even though the instructions are in Japanese (the one-page instruction sheet has black and white images). It is seriously plug-and-play. The only down-side is that it's such a pretty gloss black finish, and the bike is flat black. Nothing a green scrubbie couldn't fix. Fast shipping. View Detail
